And so it is crucial for Iheanacho that he puts together a good run – and such a stretch might just have started.
Nigeria bounced back from two goals down to beat South American giants Argentina 4-2 on Tuesday and Iheanacho was crucial to the success.
The African side played a counter-attacking style very similar to Leicester’s, with Iheanacho scoring his team’s first goal from a free-kick and then laying on the next two.
It was an all-action display in which Iheanacho could have seen red for a first-half elbow on Nicolas Otamendi, but he looked back to his old self in front of goal.
In fact, Otamendi’s ego was ultimately left as bruised as he was, with the forward running at his former Man City team-mate at will.
If that performance can translate to the Premier League stage, Iheanacho can become a key player for his new club.
