Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Newcastle target Joao Felix scored a “stunning” goal in the Champions League last night.

What’s the story?

Well, the £113m man opened the scoring for Atlético Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano yesterday, as they held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw.

Felix – who is said to be tempted by a move to Newcastle – beat David de Gea with an incredible diving header, which hit the post before finding the net.

It was a phenomenal effort, and Lineker seemingly loved it.

You can see what the BBC Match of the Day host wrote on Twitter below.

It was the 22-year-old’s fifth goal of the season, while he’s also provided five assists in 25 appearances this term.

For a player of the Portugal international’s talent, you’d expect him to be scoring on a more regular basis.

However, Felix clearly has an immense amount of ability under his belt – he’s just struggling to find form under Diego Simeone.

Newcastle should rescue Joao Felix

Felix is a beautiful player who loves to attack, although he finds himself under a more defensive coach in Simeone at Atlético Madrid.

When speaking to The Athletic about life in Spain, there was a hint of frustration at his situation.

Furthermore, the fact he is tempted by a move to Newcastle suggests he is far from settled in the Spanish capital.

In our view, Newcastle should move to rescue the man with a €350m release clause (£292m) from Simeone.

Under Eddie Howe – a man who plays a more expansive style of football – Felix would presumably thrive, especially with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin supplying him.

He wouldn’t come cheap, as Atlético Madrid will surely be keen to recoup as much of their £113m outlay as possible.

However, Felix is a potential Ballon d’Or winner, who Newcastle should definitely move to sign if the opportunity arises.
