Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers have signed Ovie Ejaria from Liverpool, while Charly Musonda has returned to Chelsea from Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic.
Ibrox club Rangers have signed Ejaria on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the past season on loan at Sunderland, who will play in League One during the 2018-19 campaign after getting relegated.
Celtic signed Musonda from Chelsea in the January transfer window on an 18-month loan deal, but the 21-year-old – who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger – has returned to his parent club after a handful of appearances.
Stubbs, who managed Rotherham United in England and is now in charge of St. Mirren, has seen Ejaria in action, and the former Celtic centre-back has advice for Ejaria.
“Steven Gerrard must see in his attitude and personality he can cope with the expectations of playing every other week in front of 50,000 people,” Stubbs told The Daily Record.
“That (not handling the expectations) can happen. You have seen some positives in the loan system, whereas (Charly) Musonda would probably be a negative.
“He did come up with a huge reputation but it’s obvious Brendan did not see enough to justify him getting more of a chance at Celtic.
“I’ve seen him Ejaria a few times. He has been on loan and has had an experience in terms of seeing what it’s all about.”
Optimism
Ejaria is a very good and talented young midfielder, and Rangers fans should be optimistic about him being a success at Ibrox.
Coming from Liverpool, the England Under-21 international will know all about playing in front of a demanding crowd and the pressure that comes with it.
