You can see why Rangers were so keen to make Webber their new Director of Football. Therefore, the Daily Mail’s reports that the Huddersfield chief has rejected advances from Ibrox in order to complete his remarkable job in Yorkshire is a major blow to the Scottish giants.
After all, Webber’s main area of influence at the John Smith’s Stadium is exactly the Achilles heel that continues to hold Rangers back. Their recruitment in the summer bordered on the laughable, with arguably Bournemouth loanee Emerson Hyndman and 38-year-old Clint Hill (below) the only successes from a total of 15 transfers.
Huddersfield have demonstrated exactly how to thrive on a shoestring budget. Rangers, dragging over-the-hill has-beens and unconvincing lower league hopefuls to Ibrox, have done exactly the opposite.
