Stuart Pearce has made a comparison between Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League’s top two, describing the difference in Spurs’ league losses – 11 – to Liverpool’s one as proof that the Reds and Manchester City are “streets ahead” of the rest.

In addition, the England legend believes Liverpool and Man City will probably continue to dominate for a number of years, believing other teams don’t have the financial clout to challenge them for the title.

Tottenham were still very much in the title race in February, their 3-1 win over Leicester City keeping them within five points of Jurgen Klopp’s side and Pep Guardiola’s charges (BBC Sport), before a major downturn in form saw them drop out of contention.

At present, there is an 18-point gap between Liverpool in second and Spurs in third, and Pearce is not particularly optimistic of any team outside the current top two catching up with them.

“These two are streets ahead of the rest,” he told Sky Sports News. “Tottenham are in third place and they’ve lost 11 games. So that’s quite excessive when you consider Liverpool have lost one.

“That’s what they’ve got to do to catch those top two. I don’t see many teams rivalling that top two in the next few years. I don’t think they’ve got the financial clout to do it.”

Tottenham’s league form has improved since moving back to N17 and, with three fixtures left, Mauricio Pochettino’s charges are looking good to finish in the top four, on top of being in the Champions League semi-finals after overcoming Man City in the quarters.
