Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is believed to be on the verge of a move to Arsenal, but Stuart Pearce wants Tottenham Hotspur to make a bid.
Stuart Pearce has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 6th June on TalkSPORT, that Tottenham Hotspur should look to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City.
Vardy is reportedly close to a move to Arsenal, after Arsene Wenger’s side agreed a fee for the England international.
Vardy has a clause in his contract which means that Champions League sides can land him for £20 million.
As a result, Tottenham could match Arsenal’s bid and Leicester would be forced to accept the offer.
And Pearce said: “I wouldn’t be against it [signing Vardy], if I was Spurs. It nullifies your competitors as well as adding to your own squad. I think it would be a good idea.”
Tottenham are known to be on the look out for a new striker this season, but Vardy is not thought to be on their radar.
The Lilywhites are currently tipped to be looking at the likes of Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette and Basel striker Breel Embolo.
Tottenham need to sign cover for Harry Kane, who is currently the only out and out striker at White Hart Lane.
And Pearce feels that Spurs could fail to repeat last season’s finish of third, unless they invest this summer.
“Spurs, I’m not sure [about for next season],” the former Nottingham Forest boss said.
“They are reliant on Harry Kane. He has to score 20 goals a season for Spurs to do well. If Spurs go into the transfer market and bring two or three top notches in, you’d really sit up and listen to their credentials.”
