West Ham United are currently entrenched in a relegation battle.
Hammers’ newly-appointed assistant manager Stuart Pearce spoke exclusively to the club’s official website today, admitting that both he and David Moyes are acutely aware of the severity of West Ham’s current situation.
The east London outfit are sitting precariously in 18th position in the Premier League table at the moment, after a woeful return of just nine points from their opening 11 league outings – a run that culminated in Slaven Bilic’s sacking at the start of last week.
Whilst the Hammers faithful were more than underwhelmed with the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager, the addition of Pearce to his back-room team should lift morale amongst the supporters, given that he was a popular figure in east London during his time as a player at the club.
And the 55-year-old spoke to WHUFC.com today about the size of the task ahead of both him and Moyes, although he did insist that there is enough quality at the club for them to excavate themselves from the mess that they are currently in:
“David [Moyes] is acutely aware – as we all are – of exactly where the club are at this moment in time. It’s not going to be easy, no one is expecting it to be, because the stakes are very high in the Premier League, but I think with the staff here and the squad of players, we have a great chance.”

Next up on the agenda for Moyes and Pearce is a trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford on Sunday, where nothing less than a win will do if they want to get the West Ham fans onside as soon as possible.
