Stuart Pearce says Tottenham must be realistic about their situation.
Stuart Pearce has told TalkSport he believes Tottenham Hotspur may have to write off challenging for the title for the next two seasons.
Tottenham finished second in the Premier League last season but face a tall order to go one better.
Spurs have switched stadiums this season temporarily, playing at Wembley instead of White Hart Lane while their new ground is built.
Pearce warns that there will not only be transition this season, but in 2018/19 too when they move into their new stadium.
He told TalkSport at 7pm last night: “You need to manage expectations at this moment in time.
“A real tilt at title will not happen, with having to break into a new stadium.
“They might have to write off the next two seasons.
“It’s bad news for a Tottenham fans I understand, but the future looks rosy for that football club.”
Pearce believes long term Tottenham are being managed sensibly and are on path to enjoy success providing they can hold onto their key players.
The thought of giving up on a title challenge may have been privately acknowledged at boardroom level, but it will not be a thought going through the minds of Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham squad.
