The West Ham United youngster has really impressed this season.
West Ham assistant manager Stuart Pearce spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and raved about the quality of Declan Rice, claiming that every minute that the youngster gets under his belt for the first-team is a bonus for the Hammers as a football club.
The 19-year-old has featured more for West Ham’s first-team than many would have expected at the start of the season, but he has really impressed, making 23 appearances in all competitions thus far.
The talented Irishman has showcased his tremendous talent when called upon this season, in what has been anything other than a smooth campaign for the Hammers.
Pearce, who arrived at the club as part of David Moyes’ team of assistants in November, explained how this season has already proved to be a real learning curve for Rice, and one that will be invaluable to his development as a player, when speaking to the club’s official website:
“Every time you take to a pitch, there’s a learning curve to be had. We had young Declan in the side and every minute he gets in a Premier League match, and bear in mind he played at Swansea for 90 minutes, every minute he gets is a bonus to us as a football club. It’s money in the bank for us as a football club in regard to his knowledge.”
Next up for the Hammers is their clash with Burnley at the London Stadium on Saturday, and following the news that Winston Reid is set to miss the rest of the season, Rice could very well be called upon in what is arguably West Ham’s most important game of their season to date.
