Stuart Pearce admitted West Ham United are looking to spend in the summer transfer window when asked about the club’s interest in Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, speaking to talkSPORT (23 April, 9am).
Of course, David Moyes’ trusty assistant was never going to give too much away.
It’s not the done thing in football to confirm your interest in a rival Premier League player – much less on national radio.
But Pearce did allow West Ham supporters a brief glimpse behind the curtain when asked about links with England international Abraham, admitting his Champions League-chasing side would look to invest after being buoyed by the impact of Vladimir Coufal, Tomas Soucek and Jesse Lingard at the London Stadium.
“Dave (Moyes) has been really busy looking at various positions,” Pearce said.

“You can probably see we’ve copped a couple of injuries, we’ve not got a fit squad of players and we are looking to improve in the summer.
“Bringing in the likes of Coufal and Soucek gave us a big lift, Jesse as well. You’ve got to keep trying to progress if you can.”
Last week, the Standard reported Moyes is a big fan of the out-of-favour Abraham, although West Ham may be forced to look at cheaper options – such as Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah – with Chelsea expected to demand about £40 million.
Abraham has started just two Premier League games since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard at Chelsea three months ago.
