West Ham were forced to start their campaign with an series of away games, and Pearce believes that immediately put Slaven Bilic’s side on the back foot.

But Pearce is of the opinion that the Hammers will show an up-turn in their performances as the season progresses.
“To start this season with three away games was not helpful, because you know what it is like, if you pick up a win in your first game, it brings confidence to the team and from there it’s a springboard to build on,” Pearce said.
“But as soon as you lose your first game, then you have got to go away from home again and then you have got to go away from home again – it is tough on them and they are forever playing catch-up from that respect.
“They have picked up a couple of results now but until the stagger unwinds and their home games catch up with their away games, it will be difficult to judge. I think West Ham will improve as the season goes on.”
West Ham won their last match against Swansea City 1-0 thanks to a late Diafra Sakho goal.
Getting three points in that contest was hugely important for Bilic, as the Croatian boss is under a sizeable amount of pressure.
There is a growing frustration around the London Stadium, with many West Ham fans feeling their team should be performing better.
West Ham are next in action after the international break, when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor.
