West Ham United’s move to the London Stadium has proven to be a controversial one.
Stuart Pearce has told West Ham United’s official website that the Hammers will kick on in upcoming years.
West Ham have made a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign this time around, and have only won one of their first seven matches.
The Hammers are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table, and there is a great amount of frustration around the London club.
West Ham’s move to the London Stadium has annoyed some supporters – but Pearce feels that it was necessary to enable them to compete with some of their local rivals.
“I think West Ham can go on to the next level and the move was essential for the club. Upton Park was a great place to play your football, but the club need to evolve,” he said.
“When you look at the bigger picture, the last few games have just been a small moment of the club’s history, as they hope to be here for the next 100 years at least and that’s what is important; the bigger picture.
“This will become a fantastic home for West Ham, they will have some great occasions here. This is just this settling-in period.
“There’s no reason why the club can’t achieve great things in the next few years. The manager Slaven Bilic knows the football club and has an affection for the football club as well. There’s a great squad here and some real talent.”
Despite Pearce’s positive outlook, West Ham appear to have a lot of work to do to convince all their supporters that leaving Upton Park was the right choice.
West Ham will be hoping that their form improves after the international break, as they look to get back on track.
The Hammers were expected to challenge for a European spot this term, but they are already playing catch up now.
West Ham return to action in two weeks’ time, when they face Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park.
