Stuart Pearce would tell Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the next transfer window. He feels Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford should be his final home match.

Spurs let slip an early 1-0 lead to lose their last home game of the 2022/23 Premier League season. Kane handed Tottenham the advantage eight minutes into the fixture with his 28th goal of the term yet. But Bryan Mbeumo (50’, 62’) and Yoane Wissa (88’) flipped the script.

Kane finessed a wonderful strike into the top corner of David Raya’s net from a free-kick. It gave Tottenham the confidence to take control during the first half. But Brentford punished Ryan Mason’s side for their wastefulness having spurned the several chances they created.

Kane took a moment to applaud Tottenham’s fans vs Brentford

A number of Tottenham’s early openings fell to and came through Kane as the 29-year-old made his 37th top-flight outing. He has started in all 37 of the north Londoners’ fixtures so far this season. The forward has also played a further 11 cup ties and hit another two goals.

But Spurs’ on-the-day captain could not inspire a result as the Bees rallied to stun Mason’s men. Kane would also take a moment at full-time to walk around the pitch on his own and applaud Tottenham’s fans. It may be seen as an early goodbye ahead of the summer sales.

Kane’s future at Tottenham is bound to be one of the hot topics of the transfer window. He has already been the subject of some interest before the market even opens. One possible move is even to Chelsea with the Blues set to appoint ex-Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino.

That is according to the Independent, which reported earlier this May that Pochettino has discussed a transfer for Kane with Chelsea. The Independent also reported this April that Bayern Munich will test Tottenham’s resolve given Kane only has one year on his contract.

What has Pearce said about Kane’s future in north London?

Yet Sky Sports noted in April that Kane would need to force any transfer from Tottenham amid interest from Manchester United. Spurs are extremely loath to grant a move for their record goalscorer. But Tottenham also fear Kane will refuse to agree a contract extension.

If Pearce was in his corner, the England cult hero would tell Kane to leave Tottenham in the transfer window. He firmly believes Spurs’ collapse against Brentford should be the striker’s final time playing a home game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and needs a new challenge.

Pearce said on talkSPORT (20/05, 14:30): “If I was advising Kane, I’d tell him to go and have another challenge somewhere else. Should this be his final home appearance here for Spurs? I think so.”
