West Ham United are having a hugely disappointing season and could get sucked into the Premier League relegation fight. A number of players are severely underperforming, but Michail Antonio is not one of them.

Antonio has been one of the best players for West Ham this campaign and will be a key figure in their quest to finish in the top 10.

The 27-year-old winger has scored nine goals and created 30 chances in 27 Premier League appearances for the Hammers so far this season.

During the 2015-16 campaign, the former Sheffield Wednesday winger scored eight goals and created 24 chances in 26 league matches for West Ham.

Ex-West Ham and Newcastle United defender Stuart Pearce worked with Antonio at Nottingham Forest when the former was the manager at the City Ground.

Pearce has been impressed with the performances of Antonio and has praised his development at the Hammers.

“When we signed him at Forest, we thought he was a talent,” said Pearce about Antonio on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday morning (broadcast from 10am, April 4, 2017). “He could be anything.

“He has added a bit more consistency to his game since he has gone to West Ham which is good to see, and I think without Michail this year West Ham would have struggled quite badly.”

West Ham will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on London rivals Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
