Stuart Pearce gives his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur’s youngsters, after EFL Cup triumph

Tottenham Hotspur beat Gillingham 5-0 in EFL Cup action yesterday evening.

Stuart Pearce has told Channel Five EFL’s Cup highlights that he feels Tottenham Hotspur have a very exciting future ahead of them.

Spurs gave a number of their young players a run out in their cup match against League One side Gillingham last night, and their quality was clear to see.

The Lilywhites ran out 5-0 victors against the Gills, and their performance was highly impressive.

Pearce certainly feels that Mauricio Pochettino has an exciting bunch of players to pick from.

And the former Nottingham Forest boss said: “Tottenham are in a very healthy situation at this moment in time.

“They have some wonderful young players, and the academy has been built over a few years.

“It was tough on Gillingham, but you get drawn against Spurs away… it’s a tough match.”

The likes of Josh Onomah, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Marcus Edwards, Harry Winks and Anton Walkes all featured for Spurs in their comfortable success last night.

It was a more familiar name who got the scoring under way though, with Christian Eriksen smashing the ball in from long-range.

Eriksen then added a second, before Vincent Janssen, Onomah and Erik Lamela also got in on the act.

Tottenham are now set to face Liverpool in the next round of the EFL Cup.
