Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have offered Joey Barton the chance to train with the youth team.

Stuart Pearce has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 3rd November, that Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joey Barton needs to eat humble pie and get back to trying to make an impact at Ibrox.

Barton has not featured for Rangers since his disagreement with Andy Halliday in training, way back in September.

Barton was banished from Rangers training for four weeks, but he has been offered a slight reprieve by Mark Warburton now.

The Ibrox side’s manager has given Barton the chance to train with Rangers’ youth-team, to try and get some match fitness back.

And Pearce feels that Barton should take Warburton up on his offer, and make sure that he starts to make an impact at Rangers.

“I felt it was a great acquisition when Rangers got him from Burnley,” Pearce, who used to manage Barton at Manchester City, said.

“He’s obviously fell out of favour by something he has said. But he’s probably got to eat some humble pie now, and get himself back out and back playing again.

“He’s not a child now, he’s 34, and he needs to get back out there playing.

“He needs to have an impact at Rangers this season. It’s a wonderful club.

“The bottom line is, get fit and get back in first team action.”

When Barton moved to Rangers he promised to be the best footballer in Scotland, but things have not gone according to plan so far.

Barton has played just five times for Rangers, and even when he was on the pitch he was not at his best.

There are now serious question marks over the former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder’s future in Glasgow, as the January transfer window draws closer.
