Everton are expected to announce current Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as their new manager in the coming days.
Stuart Pearce has expressed shock on the Colin Murray show on TalkSPORT, which was broadcast on 7th June, that Ronald Koeman has decided to move from Southampton to Everton.
Koeman is widely expected to become Everton’s next manager in the next few days, after agreeing to a controversial move.
Koeman initially stated that he was happy to stay at Southampton until the end of his contract, but it appears that his head has been turned by the Toffees’ interest.
Everton have now agreed terms with the Dutchman, and are expected to announce his arrival at Goodison Park in the next few days.
Koeman’s impending departure has caused outrage at Southampton, and Pearce is surprised that the 53-year-old has decided to move on.
“I don’t think it will be taken particularly well [at Southampton],” Pearce said. “I’m surprised I thought he would have stayed for a year and waited for a potentially bigger club, but I don’t know what financial clout Everton have now.”
Everton have reportedly handed Koeman with £100 million to spend in the summer transfer window.
The Toffees have also, crucially, promised Koeman that they will do everything in their power to keep hold of their current stars (Daily Mirror).
Koeman has been used to seeing many of his key players depart while in charge at Southamtpon.
Everton are likely to have to fend off interest in the likes of John Stones, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley this summer.
