Tottenham Hotspur will be preparing for their League Cup semi-final encounter against Chelsea on Thursday.

Stuart Pearce has claimed that Tottenham could miss out on finishing in the top-four because of their ‘tough’ run of fixtures towards the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently sitting third in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool and seven points ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.

Despite that healthy gap over their bitter rivals, Pearce’s comments about Spurs’ potential season-ending will not sit well with the club’s supporters, who will be confident that their team will secure a Champions League place this term.

“Yes [they are vulnerable of losing a top-four place] because they have a tough running,” Pearce told the Debate show on Sky Sports at 10:55 pm, “I think the top will be the top two in whichever order.

“The one thing Tottenham have got is the points in the bag at this stage of the season. But they have got a couple of injuries, so that has levelled the playing field slightly.”

Tottenham still have to travel to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City for the second half of the Premier League campaign, not forgetting their home clash against Arsenal.

At this moment in time, Pochettino has to contend with a number of injuries to his team, with attacking duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli on the sidelines until March.

Added with that, versatile attacker Heung-min Son is on international duty with South Korea potentially until February, which dampens the club’s attacking force.

Over the weekend, Spurs needed a stoppage-time winner from midfielder Harry Winks to beat relegation-threatened Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Now, they will be preparing for their daunting trip to Stamford Bridge, where they will take on Chelsea in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash.
