The Tottenham Hotspur man won a dubious penalty at the weekend.
Stuart Pearce has told Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday program that he was disappointed by Dele Alli’s alleged dive for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Tottenham ran out comfortable 5-0 winners against a very poor Swansea City side at White Hart Lane at the weekend – but the first goal was steeped in controversy.
The 21-year-old midfielder won a first-half penalty for Spurs which Harry Kane converted, but replays showed that Kyle Naughton made minimal contact with Alli.
A number of current and former football personalities – including Alan Sugar and John Hartson – condemned the England international for perceived theatrics.
And Pearce has said on Sky Sport that it was ‘undoubtedly’ a dive from the Tottenham star.
He said: “As a defender you have got to be so clinical in that box now you almost cannot go near players,” Pearce told Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday.
“It disappoints you a little bit because he took a dive, there is no doubt in my mind. The defender had put the brakes on and tried to avoid any contact.
“In this day and age in the game, forwards make contact with you, rather than the other way around.”
Apart from the controversy, it was an excellent win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and just in the nick of time.
It gives them a very timely morale boost ahead of their trip to Manchester United at the weekend.
