Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier was called up to the England squad, while Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed out.

TalkSport pundit Stuart Pearce has stated that Tottenham ace Kieran Trippier has ‘got enough credit in the tank’ to earn his call-up to the England squad ahead of Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Ahead of the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 qualifiers, Gareth Southgate has named three right-backs in his squad, Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Trippier, as reported by BBC Sport.
That meant that someone like Wan-Bissaka, who has been in fine form for Palace this season, missed out on earning his maiden call-up.
Speaking to Drivetime on talkSPORT (13/03/2019 5:10 pm), Pearce explained why someone like Trippier should in the England squad ahead of his London rival.
“Wan-Bissaka has done very well this year,” Pearce told talkSPORT. “But there are three right-backs in there already. You don’t add another one to your mix. Which one do you leave out?
“Do you leave Trent out? Do you leave Walker out? Or Trippier? I mean Trippier, I saw him play against Arsenal and it looks as though he has lost a little bit of confidence at the moment.

“He has got enough credit in the tank in the last year or so to suggest that he should be in the squad again. It’s a difficult one.”
There is no doubt that Southgate is well blessed in the full-back department, with the likes of Walker, Alexander-Arnold, Wan-Bissaka, Trippier, Danny Rose, Luke Shaw, Ben Chilwell & Ryan Bertrand all capable of making the cut.
Either way, Southgate will be pleased with the depth and quality of players he has in those departments because it increases the competition in the country.
Over the course of the season, Trippier, who was one of his country’s best players at last summers World Cup in Russia, has played 23 Premier League games for Spurs, scoring one goal and supplying three assists [transfermarkt].
By contrast, Wan-Bissaka, who is enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Selhurst Park, has played 27 league games, supplying two assists [transfermarkt], but his numbers don’t really showcase the threat he has been on those flanks.
