Can Wolverhampton Wanderers finish in the top six of the Championship this season?
Former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United defender Stuart Pearce suggested on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, November 11, 2016) that Wolverhampton Wanderers are not going to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Wolves are playing in the Championship this season and are not doing so well at the moment.
The Wanderers are currently 19th in the league table with 17 points from 16 matches.
Paul Lambert’s side are just three points above the relegation zone and nine points behind Leeds United, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
Pearce has suggested that Wolves are not going to get promoted back to the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
“The expectations now are obviously, Paul would speak to the owners, What is their expectation?” the former Manchester City manager said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, November 11, 2016).
“If they started too slowly this year, get into the top six? That might be what they have asked: ‘Get us into the top six this year and win that promotion next year’.
“How far away are they from promotion and getting a squad together? Further than they think, I think.”
Wolves have a decent squad, and the recent appointment of Lambert is a smart move from the club.
The Wanderers do need to start picking up positive results soon and start climbing up the table.
Lambert’s side will return to action next weekend when they take on Preston North End away from home at Deepdale in the Championship.
