Derby County and Burnley have been linked with moves for former Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joey Barton.
Former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United defender Stuart Pearce suggested on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, November 11, 2016) that Joey Barton is good enough to play in the Premier League.
Barton is without a club at the moment, having recently had his contract with Glasgow Rangers terminated.
The former Newcastle midfielder joined Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers only in the summer transfer window.
Former Manchester City manager Pearce believes that the 34-year-old midfielder is good enough to play in the Premier League.
The former West Ham United defender has also suggested that Barton could find a club in the Championship.
“If he is going to get a new club in January, I think anyone in the bottom reaches of the Premier League might bring him through the door or certainly a Championship club,” said Pearce on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, November 11, 2016). “That’s where he is at at the moment, I think.”
Barton is a very good midfielder, and as he showed last season with Burnley, he still has what it takes to succeed in the Championship.
True, the former Queens Park Rangers midfielder did not play well during his brief spell at Rangers, but there can be no doubt that he can do a job for a club in the Premier League or in the Championship.
According to The Daily Mail, Championship club Derby County and Premier League outfit Burnley are interested in signing Barton in the January transfer window.
It has been reported that Derby manager Steve McClaren has offered the Englishman the chance to train with his squad.
