Stuart Pearce claims Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino will feel his FA ban is ‘harsh’

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Stuart Pearce has claimed that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be thinking it’s ‘a little harsh’ that the FA handed him a touchline ban.

As reported by BBC Sport, the FA handed Pochettino a two-match touchline ban and fined him £10,000 for angrily confronting referee Mike Dean after his side’s 2-1 defeat at Burnley.

The controversial decision has resulted in some angry response from Spurs supporters, who think their manager had been hard done by.

Speaking to Kick Off on talkSPORT (06/03/2019 at 7:25 pm), Pearce shared why the FA’s decision would be controversial because he compared it with the punishments Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has received this term.

“If you look at a managers previous, like a manager like Jurgen that as you rightly say on two occasions now has been pulled up by the FA to get a touchline ban, if you’re a Spurs fan or if you are Mauricio himself, you would turn around and say ‘this one’s a bit harsh’,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

“The only way you can compare it is to what has gone on before it. Has it set a precedent elsewhere that actually you can compare it to and actually on this occasion you could probably compare it to Klopp and say ‘Yes, this one is a bit harsh’.”

During that encounter at Turf Moor, Spurs would have had a big chance in closing the gap on their title rivals, with Manchester City playing in the League Cup final and Liverpool travelling to Manchester United on that weekend.

But, the London club dropped points against Sean Dyche’s men, with their first goal being controversial because the corner leading up to Chris Wood’s header should not have been given.

Nonetheless, the reaction from Pochettino after the full-time whistle was out of character because, during his time in England, he has been known to be calm and composed at all times.

The ban for Pochettino means he will not be on the sidelines for Tottenham’s clash against Southampton and their trip to Anfield at the end of the month.
