Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is currently on international duty with England.
Sky Sports pundit Stuart Pearce has claimed that Liverpool supporters now ‘realise’ the ‘value’ of midfielder Jordan Henderson ahead of a potential 50th England cap.
The 28-year-old is a key player for club and country as he will be looking to start for the Three Lions during their Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Monday night.
It is highly likely that he will reach his historic landmark because he was part of the starting XI that thumped the Czech Republic 5-0 last Friday at Wembley.
Speaking to Sky Sports Football (25/03/2019 at 11:15 am), Pearce, who coached Henderson at under-21 level, spoke highly about his former player.
“Without a doubt [he should get his 50th England cap] and many more,” Pearce told Sky Sports Football. “You’ve got to work with him to realise the mark of, A) the player and more importantly the man – I think he has been a credit to club and country.
“When he went to Liverpool people were speculating that £18 million was too much to pay for a player of his ilk. The Liverpool fans took time to warm to him. I think they realise his value now. All the time I have worked with him, he has been an outstanding talent and an outstanding man.”
In 2011, Henderson made the switch from then-Premier League side Sunderland to Anfield for £20 million [Telegraph] in what was a large sum of money, in footballing terms, back then.
After playing alongside Steven Gerrard in midfield for a number of years, Henderson struggled to prove his worth straightaway to the supporters, but he is now an important player.
Not only is he a regular in the middle of the park for his country, but he is also part of Liverpool team that is chasing the Premier League title this season.
After the international break, Henderson will be looking to guide his team to the title with second-placed Manchester City two points behind them and with a game in hand.
