Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon.

Stuart Pearce has claimed that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is having his best season ever as a professional footballer.
The 27-year-old has been a man mountain at the heart of Liverpool’s defence this season as they search for their first English league title in 29 years.
On Sunday, he helped his team record a tricky 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Cardiff, which helped his side move to the top of the Premier League table.
Speaking to talkSPORT on (21/04/2019 at 1:25 pm), Pearce lauded the qualities of Van Dijk as he was shortlisted for the Player of the Year award.
“He [Van Dijk] has set such a standard this year that if he wins Player of the Year, he’ll be judged on the standard on where he set the bar for himself this year,” Pearce told talkSPORT.
“He [Van Dijk] has had the most marked difference [on Liverpool] and his own form as well. This has been by far the best season he had as a professional. Whilst I haven’t followed his form closely, I’d go out on a limb to say it’s his best season ever as a footballer.”

There could be the chance that Van Dijk could be named the Player of the Year at the end of the season given the huge impact he has had on Liverpool.
At this moment in time, Jurgen Klopp’s side are sitting top of the table by two points, but Manchester City do have a game in hand.
Nonetheless, during his career, Van Dijk has played for Southampton, Scottish Premiership side Celtic and in his home country of Holland.
