Tottenham Hotspur have let a number of leads slip in recent weeks, including against Leicester City on Saturday.

Former England coach Stuart Pearce has defended Harry Kane following his scathing comments about Tottenham ‘not learning’ from their mistakes.

Last Wednesday, Spurs let a two-goal lead slip against Olympiakos in the Champions League, with Kane honestly stating that he can see why his manager is ‘frustrated’ because the players are making the same mistakes they were making when he first arrived, as quoted by BBC Sport.

Since then, Spurs have gone on to let another lead slip as they were beaten by Leicester City over the weekend despite leading the game 1-0 through Kane’s early strike.

Speaking to GameDay Exclusive on TalkSport (22/09/2019 at 12:10 pm), Pearce believes Spurs have ‘improved’ since Pochettino first arrived, as he seemingly took a positive outlook at their current situation.

“Part of me applauds Tottenham for having that mentality that they are not boom or bust, or prepared to spend ridiculous amounts of money,” Pearce told TalkSport.

“Too many clubs have done that and I almost applaud Tottenham for having the mentality for not doing that.

On Kane’s comments: “Obviously some frustration there with comments like that. I can almost see that. I think they have improved. There is a level of consistency there with Tottenham. You are not surprised at the end of the season that they are a Champions League team. That’s something you wouldn’t have associated with them prior to the last six years.”

Spurs have been on an amazing journey under Mauricio Pochettino, and whilst he didn’t have his strongest group of players last season, they did reach the Champions League final.

It does seem as though the North London club are at a crossroads, with the possibility that a number of their current first-team players might not be here next season.

Either way, for now, the club will be focussing on trying to climb the Premier League table, prove their worth in Europe and produce a strong cup run.
