However, the former Forest boss believes they won’t achieve their goal with a leaky defence.
Nottingham Forest have had an up-and-down start to the new season.
They currently sit 13th in the table under new manager Philippe Montanier – but have shown signs of improvement on their performances from last season.
One area they have significantly improved upon is in attack. So often they found themselves short of goals last season, but this term they have been fairly free-scoring.
That has however been counteracted slightly by a poor defensive record which leaves them with a goal difference of zero at present.

One man who has noticed this is former Nottingham Forest player and manager Stuart Pearce.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ this morning (14/09/16) he discussed what Forest’s aims for the season should be:
“I think the ambition will be to be in the top six come the end of the season. But that’s the ambition of everybody near enough bar maybe two or three clubs that have just been promoted.
“Everyone thinks that the top six is achievable. Forest are no different.”
He went on to suggest that if Forest can tighten up at the back, they might just achieve their goals:
“They’ve just bought (Nicklas) Bendtner in, if they can keep (Britt) Assombalonga fit. They’re in the goals at this moment in time, which is a good thing, but they are also shipping goals as well.
“If they can tighten up at the back they might just have enough goals in the team to get somewhere in the top half of the league.”

Forest fans will be buoyed by the brilliant debut of new stopper Vladimir Stojkovic against Aston Villa last weekend and the continued improvement in Damien Perquis – but they are still leaking goals on a regular basis.
If Forest can tighten up all over the pitch there is no doubting their place as outsiders for a play-off spot.
But if not, another mid-table finish seems likely.
