Newcastle United have made a bright start to the season following their promotion back to the Premier League.

Former England football player, Stuart Pearce speaks during day two of Soccerex Asia on December 5, 2016 in Doha, Qatar.

Stuart Pearce told Premier League Daily on Sky Sports (broadcast on 2nd October 2017 from 10:00 am) that he does not expect Newcastle to have any problem staying in the top flight this term and believes that they will finish in mid-table.

Rafa Benitez endured a frustrating window, and it appeared that his frustrations were justified as the Magpies lost their first two league games, including away at another newly-promoted side Huddersfield.

However, Newcastle have enjoyed a better spell since, having won three of their last five top flight games and drawing with Liverpool in their most recent encounter, which has left them ninth in the table heading into the current international break.

And Pearce – who enjoyed a brief spell with the Magpies during the latter stages of his playing career – is confident that Benitez’s men should have absolutely no problem keeping themselves away from danger this season.

“At the start of the season when asked whether they’d be in the relegation zone, I thought not. I think they’ll finish somewhere just under the halfway mark,” he told Premier League Daily on Sky Sports (broadcast on 2nd October 2017 from 10:00 am).

“It depends how many goals they can score and depends how good their form is at St James’. If they get some good home form going this season, it could underpin a decent season. But I don’t think they’ll go down, they’re too good for that and have got too good a manager and are too well organised now.”

With the table currently still congested, Newcastle will know that a couple of victories following the break could put them in a fantastic position heading into the busy winter period.

And with the likes of Southampton, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Bournemouth ahead in the next four games between the two breaks, it certainly appears that Newcastle have a fantastic chance to pick up a solid amount of points and put themselves in a great position to live up to Pearce’s expectations.
