The England legend showed he’s no longer up to the required standard by his stint at Nottingham Forest.

As Norwich City fans still wait to see who the next manager of their club will be following the sacking of Alex Neil, one name who’s suddenly come into contention is Stuart Pearce, going by the odds as reported by Sky Bet.

Former England boss Roy Hodgson is the current favourite, but former England U21 and Nottingham Forest boss Pearce is third in line after Alan Pardew, at 9/2. However, just ask Forest fans their thoughts on their former hero and it is clear that the ex-defender would resemble something of a gigantic leap backwards for the Canaries.

You’d have thought after his time at Nottingham Forest, where Pearce spent a fair chunk of money and had a quality team available to him, that no-one in the Championship would even consider making a move.

After an incredible start of five wins in seven league games, Pearce’s Forest then won just three out of their next 21 Championship fixtures, while the Reds also exited the FA Cup to League One side Rochdale.

As well as this, the style of play introduced at Forest was nothing short of abysmal, with plans A-Z being kick it long and hope for the best, despite several ball playing midfielders and talented wingers in the side.

If the Norwich board, for whatever reason, choose to elect Pearce as their new manager, then they clearly don’t have any plans to win promotion back to the Premier League anytime soon.
