Rangers should be looking to win the Scottish Premiership title in the next two years according to Stuart McCall.

Former Rangers boss Stuart McCall has told BT Sport that the Gers must win the league title in the next two seasons.

Rangers went into this season with some semblance of optimism under Pedro Caixinha, but after a summer of spending on new signings, Caixinha ultimately came up short and was sacked in October.

Since then, Rangers have been under the management of interim boss Graeme Murty, who has stepped up form being a youth and development coach at Ibrox to take charge of the first team.

Murty has largely fared well so far, losing just three times in 2018, but it remains to be seen whether Murty will be handed the job on a permanent basis.

The former Scotland international could be boosted with a win over Old Firm rivals Celtic in this weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final, but fans already have their eyes on other names such as Frank de Boer and Steve Clarke.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, former Rangers boss Stuart McCall has told BT Sport that he thinks the Gers must win the Scottish Premiership title within the next two years in order to stop Celtic from edging towards 10 league titles in a row.

Bradford City manager Stuart McCall looks on during the Sky Bet League One match between Northampton Town and Bradford City at Sixfields on September 23, 2017 in Northampton, England.

McCall noted that he doesn’t know whether Murty is the man to do it, but Rangers must have somebody in charge who can win the title by 2020, as they are the only team in Scotland who can challenge Celtic for top spot due to the disparity in finances.

“The bigger picture for Rangers is that over the next two seasons they win a league title. They need to get someone in there they believe can do it,” said McCall. “Whether Graeme is the one to do it, that’s to be decided but obviously winning Sunday’s semi-final with Celtic would help his case.”

“Any Rangers-minded person will know deep down that stopping 10 is the aim – and every Celtic-minded person will know what their aim is. With the finances involved, I’d imagine Rangers would be the only side who could stop Celtic now – and for Rangers supporters, they have got to,” he added.
