Rangers manager Stuart McCall has been impressed with Andy Murdoch.

Rangers manager Stuart McCall has told the club’s official website that 20-year-old midfielder Andy Murdoch is getting better and better after another impressive display against Queen of the South.

Rangers won the first leg of their play-off game at Queen of the South on Saturday, with goals from Steven Smith and Dean Shiels handing Rangers a 2-1 victory.

Manager McCall will now be confident of heading into the next round to face Hibernian, with the return leg at Ibrox coming up this weekend.

With just one defeat to his name as Rangers boss – ironically against Queen of the South – McCall has made a strong start at Ibrox, with fans impressed with how he has helped develop some of the club’s young players.

Teenagers Ryan Hardie and Tom Walsh have recently been in the Rangers first team, but it’s midfielder Murdoch who is making the biggest impact.

Murdoch impressed against Queen of the South, offering defensive protection for the likes of Dean Shiels and Nicky Law to get forward in attack.

Now, manager McCall says that Murdoch was ‘outstanding’, and believes the midfielder is now improving week by week under his stewardship.

“What both midfielders had was an insurance policy with Murdoch in the middle who looked after Carmichael and he was outstanding yet again,” said McCall.

“The kid just doesn’t disappoint, he keeps improving game by game and he shows fantastic maturity. He was very key for allowing Dean and Law to get forward,” he added.
