Stuart Findlay left Celtic to join Newcastle United last summer.

Stuart Findlay has admitted to the Chronicle that a lot of people questioned his decision to leave Celtic to join Newcastle United last summer.
Findlay was identified by Newcastle’s scouting team as a potential future first-team player.

And the 21-year-old opted against taking a move to play regularly, to move to St. James’ Park.
Findlay admits that people met the move for scepticism originally.
However, Findlay insists that he has no regrets about moving to Tyneside.
“It’s been a good year. A lot of people asked: ‘Why go to play for a reserve team when you can play in a lower league?’
“But you don’t knock down the chance of playing for Newcastle United.
“It has been an up and down year. I just want to hit the ground running in pre-season and make my name either at this club or on loan.

“I want to get as high up as possible.”
Findlay made one senior appearance this season for Newcastle, in the FA Cup against Birmingham City.
Whether Findlay will receive many opportunities next season remains to be seen, with competition for places set to increase at Newcastle.
Benitez is eager to strengthen his defence, following the Magpies’ promotion to the Premier League.
