What does the future hold for Stuart Dallas at Leeds United?

Northern Ireland winger Stuart Dallas returned to action for Leeds United at the end of last month.

He has played 15 minutes of Championship game time so far, each time as a substitute, as well as featuring in their Carabao Cup defeat to Preston.

Dallas is under contract until 2020, but this is a crucial season for whether he will get to see out that deal.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa has shown a ruthless side so far, getting rid of more than 15 players, either on loan or permanent deals.

If Dallas is going to play a part beyond this season, he needs to demonstrate he can be a big contributor this year.

That will especially be the case if Leeds win promotion to the Premier League, which would prompt several new additions.

Dallas took a step back last season, making only 14 league starts, his fewest in his three years at Leeds, which began with 38 starts in his debut year before dropping to 20 the year after.

He has gradually become more of a bit part player and while he has shown he can play at left-back too, or as a wing-back, he has only looked like a stop gap solution there as opposed to a permanent one.

It is up to Dallas to seize his chance at 27-years-old to become a regular starter again.

If he can do so then he could stand a chance of fulfilling his contract. Take another step back or stagnate further, and Leeds could be looking to move him on.
