Leeds United failed to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.

Leeds United winger Stuart Dallas has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that this summer will be massive for the club.

The West Yorkshire outfit narrowly failed to clinch a place in the Championship playoffs this season and will remain in the second tier of English football for the 2017-18 campaign.

Despite the disappointment, the Whites have had a very successful season in which they were in the running for a top-six finish until the final weeks.

Garry Monk, who was appointed the Leeds manager in the summer of 2016, has done a wonderful job at Elland Road.

Leeds winger Dallas, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, believes that the summer will be massive for the club, and has suggested that Monk should be handed a new contract.

“This summer is massive for the club,” Dallas told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “The club have got to build on what we’ve got here, starting with the management.

“You can see what everybody wants. The fans want it and the players want it. As players we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we come back in the best condition we can, no matter who’s in charge, but we know who we want and I think the fans do as well.

“The players would love (Monk) to stay. He’s a joy to work under and hopefully he’ll be here next season. But it’s not down to the players to make that decision.”

Leeds need to build on this season’s success and make a push for the Championship playoffs again in 2017-18.

Not many will have expected the Whites to be in the running for the top six this campaign, but next season the club will be expected to be strong contenders for the playoffs.
