Stuart Dallas comments on Leeds United teammate Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips is an important player for Leeds United.

Leeds United winger Stuart Dallas has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Kalvin Phillips staying at the club and signing a new contract will be a boost to the Whites.

The Championship club’s managing director Angus Kinnear recently told BBC Radio Leeds that Phillips is close to signing a new deal.

The 23-year-old central midfielder was linked with moves away from Elland Road in the summer transfer window, with The Mirror crediting Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Bournemouth with interest in the youngster.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds turned a bid of over £20 million from Villa for the Englishman this summer.

Dallas, who has been on the books of Leeds since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Brentford and when Uwe Rosler was in charge, believes that Phillips not leaving the Whites and committing his future will be a boost for the club.

Dallas told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Phillips: “Absolutely [it’s a boost for the players]. For a player like Kalvin to remain at the club, I think that shows ambition from the club.”

Dallas added: “Us as players, of course we want to see your mates playing at the highest level they can, but we want it to be with us. Kalvin has an opportunity to do that and he’s a big part of our team.”

Phillips made 44 appearances in the Championship for Leeds last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

So far this campaign, the 23-year-old made six appearances in the league for the Whites, according to WhoScored.

Phillips is one of the best central midfielders in the Championship, and he will be a key figure in Marcelo Bielsa’s side in their quest to clinch promotion to the Premier League.
