Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has admitted to The Glasgow Evening Times that he was frustrated with his position last season.
The 24-year-old operates as a number 10, but under then Celtic manager Ronny Deila last season, the Scotsman was played out wide.
The former Scotland Under-21 international’s performances during the 2015-16 campaign were not great or inconsistent.
Armstrong, who joined Celtic from Dundee United in February 2015, is enjoying his football under Brendan Rodgers, who was appointed the Glasgow giants’ manager in the summer.
The midfielder featured in the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Celtic Park last weekend. The Scotsman came on as a substitute in the 54th minute of the Scottish Premiership game.
Armstrong was delighted to have played as a number 10, although it seems that Tom Rogic is the player for that position at the moment.
“I did,” Armstrong told The Glasgow Evening Times when asked whether he enjoyed his Old Firm experience. “I’ve been in and out so far this season, so to come on and to play in my opinion well and make an impact was great. To add that goal was important for me.
“The manager and I had a chat about different things and about playing me in that position. I’m very happy with that because that was a slight frustration for me last season rotating in different positions and playing on the left. That’s where I know I can fulfill my potential.”
Celtic will take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle away from home at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
The Bhoys will head into the match on the back of a 7-0 defeat to Barcelona away from home in Champions League Group C.
