Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:09pm, September 12, 2021) that defender Pascal Struijk did not mean to hurt Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott.
In the 58th minute of the Premier League game between Leeds and Liverpool at Elland Road this evening, a challenge from defender Struijk saw Liverpool youngster Elliott suffer a serious injury.
Elliott was taken off after suffering the horrific injury, and Leeds defender Struijk was dismissed.
Radrizzani said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:09pm, September 12, 2021) about the challenge: “The accident, it was hard for him and I wish the boy a full recovery and hope he can recover soon, but this is part of football.
“To be honest, if you watch the video, you see Struijk slide with his left foot on him, and it’s accidental. It was not a premeditated tackle.”

The challenge from Struijk was not at all premeditated.
The Leeds defender clearly went for the ball.
It is just unfortunate that Elliott suffered the bad injury in the process.
Of course, that is not going to be of any consolation to the Liverpol winger, who was playing in midfield this season and was doing quite well.

We hope that Elliott recovers fully soon so that the world of football can go back to watching this special Liverpool player in action.
As for the result, Liverpool won the Premier League game 3-0 to maintain their strong start to the season.
The Reds were the better team and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.
