Leeds United striker Marcus Antonsson is determined to prove his worth to Garry Monk.
Leeds United’s Marcus Antonsson
During an interview with the club’s official website, Leeds striker Marcus Antonsson insisted that he is happy when Chris Wood plays well and scores goals, despite him being in direct competition with the New Zealand international for a starting spot in Garry Monk’s side.
The 25-year-old Swede scored a hat-trick for the Whites’ under-23 side against Huddersfield Town on Monday night, but has struggled to show the form that helped convince Leeds to part with £2 million to secure his services over the summer, and has scored just one goal in 12 Championship outings.
Antonsson spoke to LUTV, and described how he is ready to fight Wood for his place, but insisted that he has been pleased to see his teammate playing so well:
“I am happy for him; when he scores the team wins. It’s football, there are a lot of good players here and you have to show your best to be on the pitch and that’s what I am going to do.”
Leeds’ Chris Wood celebrates
Garry Monk’s men have impressed on the most part this season, and currently sit in seventh position in the Championship table, just five points behind third placed Reading.
Antonsson will certainly have his work cut out if he is to force his way into the Leeds starting XI again, with Chris Wood’s record of 11 goals in 20 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit so far this term and Monk’s penchant for playing just one up front.
