David Seaman has spoken highly about Aaron Ramsdale in Arsenal training and claimed that he is a ‘strong character’, as he told talkSPORT (13/10/21 at 9:35 am).

The Arsenal legend was invited to London Colney recently, where he was able to see the first-team players up, close and personal.

Understandably, he would have spent a fair bit of time with the goalkeepers, including the senior duo Ramsdale and Bernd Leno.

At the start of the season, it was Leno who was donning the number one goalkeeping gloves.

But as soon as Ramsdale got his feet warm under the table, or even hands, he was provided with a first-team spot and he hasn’t looked back since.

And Seaman loved what he is seeing from the 23-year-old and the confidence he is portraying.

“It’s great to go back,” said Seaman. “It was nice to be invited. Then you go back and see the old training ground. I say it’s old, it look amazing now because it has had a massive refurbishment.

“I went out with the pitch with the lads, on the same sort of grass that I used to go and train on. It was a really weird experience. And Ramsdale’s a character.

“He’s a strong character. He knows what he wants, which is what I like about him.

“I like what I am seeing. He is confident from crosses. He’s organising defenders in front of him and, at the moment, it’s going really well.”

It seems as though, for the long run, Ramsdale will now be Arsenal’s number one, unless the Englishman has a number of error-prone moments.

If that’s the case then it’s probably goodbye for Leno and an indication that his career in North London is coming to an end.

The German’s contract at Arsenal is due to expire next summer, and if he’s in the same scenario by the time the summer comes along, then it’s obvious that he will head for the exit door.
