Jamie Redknapp has said on Sky Sports Premier League (1:18pm, November 7, 2021) that Daniel Ek is a big reason why Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are doing so well now.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder believes that Ek’s interest in buying Arsenal earlier this year prompted the current owners to invest in the squad.
Daniel Ek’s Arsenal bid
Ek, who is the co-founder and CEO of Spotify, made a bid of £1.8 billion for Arsenal back in May 2021.
However, as the Swedish billionaire himself admitted, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment rejected it.
Ek is an Arsenal fan and is worth 3.4 billion, according to The Sun.
Stan Kroenke then went on to sign a number of players for Arsenal, including Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale.
As reported by talkSPORT, Arsenal had a net spend of over £120 million in the summer of 2021.
Jamie Redknapp’s verdict
Redknapp said on Sky Sports Premier League (1:18pm, November 7, 2021): “I think that the best thing that has happened to the club is Daniel Ek probably making a bid.
“I think it has stroked their fire. They have realised that they have got to do something, they have got to be proactive.”
