Well, Arsenal probably should’ve signed Tammy Abraham, if we’re honest.
Arsenal were heavily linked with a transfer for the former Chelsea hitman during the summer transfer window.
It was reported that Abraham, a boyhood Gooner, even wanted to join the Emirates Stadium outfit.
But despite a bid by the North Londoners, he wound up moving to Italy to join up with Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
And with Alexandre Lacazette blowing hot and cold this season, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now linked away after being stripped of the captaincy, well Arsenal might well regret not having gone all out for Abraham.
Lethal goalscorer
That’s because the 24-year-old has netted 12 goals across all competitions this season, which is more than Lacazette and Aubmeyang combined.
Arsenal supporters might argue that he scored six of his haul in the Europa Conference League, which the Gunners aren’t even in, and although that’s true, he’s also dazzling in Serie A and this is clearly a goalscorer who Mikel Arteta could’ve done with this season.
Listen, Aubameyang was also a red-hot marksman during his prime, but he’s been a fading force these past since 18 months, since signing his lucrative contract extension, whereas the France international is likely to leave this summer when his deal expires.
Last summer, Arsenal should’ve shown some foresight and signed a long-term replacement for one of them – and the fact that Abraham actually wanted the deal to happen, well this is looking like a terrible mistake by Edu and Arteta.
