Tottenham Hotspur haven’t had much luck in the striker department since Harry Kane emerged as one of the world’s finest goalscorers.
Since 2016, Spurs have signed Vincent Janssen, Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius as back-up options to Kane.
But considering all three scored a combined eight Premier League goals, you could argue that none of them did the job asked of them really.
Back in 2015, HITC Sport reported that Tottenham were keen on signing Gerard Moreno and, in light of an announcement last week, they might regret failing to get him, the one that got away.
That’s because the Villarreal marksman was included in the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
The 29-year-old, who was 23 at the time of the Lilywhites’ reported interest, had a 30-goal season under Unai Emery last season, helping fire the Spaniards to Europa League glory.
It was well known at the time of the Moreno interest that Kane was on his way to becoming a world-class option up front, so Moreno would’ve only been a back-up to the England international
But even still, his goals in Spain have proved that he’s one hell of a goalscorer and someone who Mauricio Pochettino really could’ve done with.
It’s worth pointing out that that was the year Pochettino’s side rivalled Leicester City for the Premier League title and maybe, just maybe, adding the Spaniard to the squad might have pushed the Foxes a little closer.
