Should Leeds pounce for Erling Haaland?
Signing young players is a policy which has recently frustrated Leeds fans as it has not been backed up with acquisitions for the first team squad.
But there isn’t actually anything wrong with snapping up players with high potential, providing the here and now is not neglected.
It is also a strategy which comes undone if Leeds overlook the most obvious young talent who should be on their radar.
That is Norwegian youngster Erling Haaland, son of former Leeds United star Alf Inge Haaland.
The teenager is just 17-years-old, and said last year that his dream was to follow in his dad’s footsteps.
He told Norwegian newspaper Romsdals Budstikke: “I want to be the best possible. The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds. In addition, the goal is to become a better player than my dad was. I hope to get more caps than he did.”
Haaland has had a terrific year for Molde – so much so that he is being eyed up by Italian champions Juventus.
If ever there was a time for Leeds to make the young player’s dream happen, it’s now, before a club in a better position snaps him up and he becomes unattainable.
Haaland could consider Juventus too big a step right now, and jump at an offer from Leeds if it comes.
Leeds are busy snapping up the likes of Kun Temenuzkhov, Oliver Sarkic, and have Malik Wilks and Jack Clarke in the mix too, all hoping for first team chances in the near future.
Haaland would add to the mix, but he might be too good for the Whites to ignore.
