Jermain Defoe has told talkSPORT that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants to manage Liverpool in the future.

The Rangers striker has raved about his manager, and the former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United star believes that Gerrard wants to eventually replace Jurgen Klopp as the Liverpool boss.

Defoe told talkSPORT: “That’s probably the main goal. That’s probably what he’s striving for. Because he’s done so well and that’s what he’s striving for and it’s his first main job really.

“He went from Liverpool Under-18s straight to Rangers, even then people probably thought that was a big job for your first job.

“To dominate domestically was special, but people might look at it and think it’s either going to be Celtic or Rangers, but to compete in Europe as well. At some point I think he will go on to manage Liverpool.”

Steven Gerrard as Liverpool manager?

Klopp is already a legend at Liverpool, and there are no indications yet that he wants to leave, or that the defending Premier League champions want to replace him.

The German has a long contact at Anfield, and perhaps he will even extend it in due time.

Gerrard is one of the greatest players in Liverpool history, and given his success at Rangers, it would seem logical to expect him to eventually replace Klopp.

The former England international midfielder has guided Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title this season and also led them to the Europa League Round of 16.

Gerrard was a winner as a player and he is a winner as a manager, and it is only a matter of time before he takes charge of Liverpool.
