Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion are expected to be extremely busy during this summer’s transfer window.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino faces an extremely challenging summer ahead of him, as he looks to improve the quality of his squad, without disrupting the harmony that served them so well last season.
One particular area where the Argentine needs to address is his forward department, with the addition of another striker surely featuring highly on his wish-list.
More specifically though, he will be looking to upgrade on Harry Kane’s current understudy, Vincent Janssen. The difficulty, however, will be in bringing someone of greater quality than the Dutchman to the club, who will also be content with receiving irregular game-time.
With this in mind, an interesting option for them could be Baggies striker Salomon Rondon, and although Tony Pulis will surely be reluctant to sell the Venezuelan, he could be tempted into doing business if Janssen was offered as part of the deal.
West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon
The 27-year-old West Brom striker has all of the attributes required to be a success under Pochettino’s regime at Tottenham. His tireless work-ethic, combined with his tenacious playing style is ideally suited to what the Spurs manager expects from his players.
He would not only be an able back up for Kane, but could also be utilised as part of a two-pronged attack, should Poch choose to play with two strikers.
Whilst he is not the most prolific of strikers, the manner in which he brings others into play could prove to be a huge asset for the Lilywhites, and he would arguably bring the best out of Spurs’ more creative minded midfielders, with the extra space that the Venezuelan would create for them.
And if Rondon did move to north London, Janssen’s arrival at the Hawthorns could have a similar impact.
His large frame, and the manner in which he excels with his back to goal would suit Pulis’ direct playing philosophy perfectly. He has struggled during his time with Tottenham, of that there is no doubt, but he has genuine talent that, if utilised in the correct manner, could prove to be a major asset to the Baggies.
And although it still seems like a long-shot, It would certainly be a transfer worth exploring for both sides, that’s for sure.
