Leeds United are entering a new era under Jesse Marsch, but somehow, there are still a few lasting reminders of the pre-Marcelo Bielsa era at the club.
Indeed, players such as Laurens De Bock are still on the books at Elland Road, and while most of that pre-Bielsa deadwood remains.
One player who rather outstayed his welcome at Leeds was Jay-Roy Grot. The Dutchman last appeared for Leeds back in 2018, but he was actually only sold by the club back in 2021, joining VFL Osnabruk on February 1st last year.
Grot wasn’t given a single chance to play under Marcelo Bielsa, and while some may say that his lack of chances were unfair, the Whites’ decision to let Grot go has been justified.
Indeed, in the 396 days since Leeds let Grot go to the German second-tier, he’s not scored a single league goal.
The 6’4 forward is now playing his football in the Danish top-flight, but despite another change of scenery, that first post-Leeds league goal still hasn’t come.
Grot was never a prolific player for Leeds. He netted just one goal in 20 league appearances for the Whites, and sadly, he’s not managed to improve in front of goals since his departure.
Bielsa didn’t see anything in Grot during his time at the club, and as sad as it is to say, it seems as though El Loco was spot on about the Dutchman.
