Tottenham Hotspur target Santiago Gimenez continues to come in for criticism with one Eredivisie pundit insisting that the Premier League-linked striker is not worth even ‘five million euros’ on current form.
It may seem a little strange, considering that the Mexico international has already broken the 20-goal barrier this term, but Santiago Gimenez’s form – or a lack thereof – remains a source of real concern over in the Netherlands.
The striker has now gone five games without a goal. The ruthlessness which caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and co before Christmaas going missing.
Tottenham like Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez

“He is not worth 50 million euros,” argues De Telegraaf reporter Valentijn Driessen, insisting that he would have sold Gimenez ‘immediately’ for such a sum if he was the man tasked with taking the big decisions at De Kuip.
“(50 million euros) is the value they think they will sell him for. If you watch him now, I would not pay five million euros for him.”
Form, as they say, is temporary. And, once he recovers from a calf injury which ruled him out of the 2-0 Rotterdam derby victory over Sparta this weekend, Gimenez will be desperate to prove that his class remains permanent.
Tottenham are likely to be keeping a close eye on the situation. Ange Postecoglou’s side are still lacking a top-level number nine despite the excellent recent form of Richarlison and the undoubted potential of Alejo Veliz.
Spurs also eyeing Ivan Toney
“Santi is one of the top ten (most coveted) players in Europe,” Gimenez’s agent told Media Tempo in August. “So even Tottenham Hotspur (are interested). Many clubs (want him). Milan, Inter, Napoli and Lazio.
“(Atletico Madrid) were very interested.”
Gimenez, despite his recent struggles, still has 44 goals in a just a season-and-a-half at Feyenoord. He fired Arne Slot’s side to their first Eredivisie title since 2017 last term.
HITC Football understands that Tottenham could go for the more proven, low-risk option that is Brentford’s Ivan Toney instead. The wantaway England international is potentially available for around £50 million as his contract runs down.
