Jonas Wind once admitted that his dream was to represent Arsenal in the Premier League. But, after a superb start to the new Bundesliga campaign with VFL Wolfsburg, a move to one of the Gunners’ London rivals may be the next best thing.
“If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me,” Jonas Wind told BuliNews shortly after joining Wolfsburg from FC Copenhagen in 2022. “As it has always been my favorite club.
“In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it would be exciting to play there.”
One can only imagine, then, that reports linking Wind with both Brentford and Fulham are a source of much anticipation, even if that Arsenal dream still feels a long way from becoming reality.
Jonas Wind wants to play for Arsenal
According to 90Min, Brentford drew up a three-man shortlist of potential Ivan Toney replacements in September. Toney, who may yet end up at Arsenal ironically enough, could have his boots filled by a Denmark international enjoying the best run of his Bundesliga career with nine goals in 13 games, though Brentford are also scouting Santos’ Marcos Leonardo and AZ Alkmaar’s Vangelis Pavlidis.
The success of so many other Danish talents in West London certainly won’t harm Wind’s chances, the Copenhagen-born forward potentially following in the footsteps of Christian Norgaard, Christain Eriksen and Mattias Jensen.
Fulham need an Aleksandr Mitrovic replacement
Should Brentford opt to look elsewhere, however, Wind could end up down the road at Craven Cottage instead. The spectre of Aleksandr Mitrovic continues to hang over Fulham. Wind one of the options under consideration as Marco Silva looks to exercise the ghost of their dearly departed talisman (The Standard).
Wind has blown away the Bundesliga with his gale-force goalscoring this season.
That ‘dream’ switch to Arsenal remains a fantasy for the time being. But, while neither Brentford nor Fulham will be all to keen to consider themselves a stepping stone club, a January move to one of the Gunners’ London neighbours would certainly be a step in the right direction for a striker pining for the Premier League.
