Striker Cibicki left out of Malmo side as Leeds United close in, four-year deal agreed

Leeds United have been strongly linked to Pawel Cibicki.

Leeds United’s chances of signing Pawel Cibicki may have been given a boost after he was omitted from Malmo’s side last night.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported at the weekend that Leeds had made a bid for the Sweden under-21 international, claiming he was ‘close’ to leaving.

Yesterday he was an unused substitute for Malmo as they drew 2-2 at home to IFK Gothenburg.

After the game Fotball Skanalen reported Cibicki has agreed a four-year deal with Leeds, with the transfer claimed to be £1.5 million.

Malmo made three changes during the match but chose not to call on Cibicki.

The choice of manager Magnus Pehrssen could be taken as a potential sign Malmo are preparing to sell the forward.

Malmo’s sporting director Daniel Anderson gave a ‘no comment’ when quizzed about Cibicki’s transfer after the game.

Cibicki featured in the recent under-21 European Championships and has been watched by many top clubs around Europe.

At Leeds he would be able to strike up a connection with former Malmo star and Leeds hero Pontus Jansson.

Leeds are looking for replacements for Chris Wood as they look to build on an unbeaten start to the season. Last week they added Jay-Roy Grot from NEC Nijmegen.
