Newcastle or Leeds could now sign Dion Drena Beljo in January as the striker gets set to leave NK Osijek.
What’s the story?
Well, the 20-year-old spoke to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany about his future, where he revealed he would be open to joining Borussia Monchengladbach, Newcastle or Leeds as the Croatian prepares for the next step in his career.
Now, Plettenburg has added another piece of information since his interview with Beljo.
The Sky Germany journalist believes NK Osijek are happy to sell their No.9 in January if they receive a €6m (£5m) bid, which should be an affordable fee for any one of the three aforementioned clubs.
Beljo has made a name for himself after scoring nine goals in 19 appearances for NK Osijek so far this season, while also providing two assists.
In our view, Newcastle would be an interesting destination for the Croatia Under-21 international.
Eddie Howe is clearly putting a lot of focus on signing young talent from across the globe, such as Garang Kuol.
The 18-year-old Australia international recently joined the Magpies from Central Coast Mariners, while there is also said to be interest in Vasco da Gama wonderkid Andrey Santos – according to 90min.
Newcastle or Leeds could scupper plans by signing Beljo
According to Bild, Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in Beljo, as they aim to find a replacement for Arsenal and Tottenham target Marcus Thuram – 90min believe the north London duo are keen.
The German news outlet believe the Bundesliga side will allow their talisman – who sees his contract expire at the end of the season – to depart in January if they can secure the Croatian’s signature.

However, if Newcastle or Leeds pinch Beljo from the German outfit, it could see them hold on to Thuram until the summer, causing Arsenal and Tottenham to miss out on a January deal for the France international.
Be sure to keep an eye on this saga, as there could be a transfer merry-go-round this winter.
